About the Foundation
In memory of Tonyia Benton, a devoted educator, minister, and advocate for personal and academic growth,
the Tonyia Benton Scholarship Foundation honors her legacy by empowering students to pursue their dreams in the Arts and Humanities. Tonyia’s life was defined by her passion for education, her unwavering faith, and her commitment to helping others achieve their full potential.
The Tonyia Benton Scholarship is a tribute to her dedication as an English professor, where she inspired countless students at Tarrant County College to excel in their studies and explore the transformative power of literature. Beyond the classroom, Tonyia’s leadership extended into ministry as she co-pastored International City of Light Ministries alongside her husband, Bishop Antonnio C. Benton. Her work empowered women, strengthened families, and brought healing and restoration to those in need.
This scholarship seeks to celebrate students who share Tonyia’s passion for education and creativity. Open to those pursuing studies in the Arts and Humanities, it supports individuals who demonstrate a commitment to personal growth, community impact, and academic excellence. Applicants are encouraged to reflect on how their journey mirrors Tonyia’s dedication to education, her faith in uplifting others, and her belief in the power of storytelling.
